Free career assessments you can hand to students
We publish a free Holland Code (RIASEC) interest inventory for the same reason career centers teach the framework: it gives a student a vocabulary for what they are drawn to in about four minutes. This page has everything you need to decide whether it belongs on your resource list, including the parts most test pages leave out.
Free for every student, printable, and scored in the browser. Use it in a lesson, in an advising session, or as a link on your guide.
What the instrument actually is
- 30 original items, five per interest area, rated on a five-point enjoyment scale and summed per letter. The code is the top three letters, with ties broken in canonical RIASEC order.
- Built on John Holland's framework, the public theory of occupational themes that career counseling has used for decades. The U.S. Department of Labor's O*NET program publishes its own Holland-based Interest Profiler on the same model. Ours is not affiliated with O*NET, and the test page says so.
- Scored in the browser. Answers are not sent to us, so there is no student record on our side. Ordinary website analytics apply as they do to any page, described in our privacy policy.
- About four minutes, with the full result, per-area scores, and matched careers on screen right after the last question.
Yes to classroom use, linking, and printing
You may link the test from any resource page or guide, run it with a class or an advising group, and print the worksheet for as many students as you need. No permission request, no licence, no fee, and no attribution requirement beyond the link itself.
The one thing we ask: point students at the test or the worksheet rather than republishing the item bank as a separate product. Full terms are in our Terms of Service.

The other assessment, and how it differs
Alongside the interest inventory we run a career quiz that reads a different signal: childhood patterns, the moments someone loses track of time, and what they are optimising for now. It maps those to one of twenty passion archetypes with specific paths, and it is the product side of what we do, so results there arrive by email. For a resource list where students should get an answer on the spot, the Holland Code test is the one to link.
Questions we get from career centers
Is the Holland Code test free for schools and students?
Yes. All 30 questions, the three-letter code, per-area scores, and matched careers are free for every student, with no institutional licence, seat count, or purchase involved. It stays free: the test is static content scored in the browser, so it costs us nothing per taker.
Do students have to register before they see a result?
No. The complete result renders on screen immediately after the last question. Answers are scored in the student's browser and are not transmitted to us, so there is no student record on our side to request or delete. Our privacy policy covers the ordinary website analytics that apply to any page.
Is this the O*NET Interest Profiler?
No, and we say so on the test itself. The O*NET Interest Profiler is the U.S. Department of Labor's own Holland-based instrument. Ours uses 30 original MyPassion.ai items scored on the same public RIASEC framework, and it is not affiliated with O*NET.
May we print it or use it in a lesson?
Yes. The printable worksheet exists for exactly that: hand it out, have students self-score, and discuss the codes as a group. Print as many copies as your students need for classroom or advising use.
May we add it to our resource page or LibGuide?

Can we cite your data in a workshop or report?
Yes. Our Career Change Report 2026 aggregates 6,800+ quiz responses and publishes the anonymised dataset under CC BY 4.0, so figures and charts can be reused with attribution.
